Get Your Digital TV Converter Coupons Now, Tell 1940 I Said Hi

digital tv converter box how to install

For those of you still hanging on to your old ass Zenith televisions (video) and rocking Sony Walkmans, you can still apply for the government subsidized coupons for digital converter boxes. Consumers can order coupons until March 31 2009, or as long as supplies last. The switch to all digital will happen on Feb 17th.

Some numbers on this wonderful government program:

Congress originally allocated $1.5 billion to provide $40 vouchers to help offset the cost of the converters, which cost between $50 and $80. (source)

Apparently that wasn’t enough.

Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass) states that “it is becoming increasingly clear that at minimum Congress may need to quickly pass additional funding for the converter box program in early January to prevent any delay in coupon availability or issuance.”

Who cares if the national debt exceeds 1 trillion dollars next year and we burden our posterity indefinitely? As long as we can subsidize people with antique televisions, all of our worries will go away! We can throw on some Depends and get ready for the Price is Right in full digital glory!

Have we lost our minds? Why the hell is the government taxpaying citizen subsidizing people with old televisions? We even translated the website for this asinine program into 11 other languages! Taxpayer money well spent!

Squares like this Rep. Markey from Massachusetts should be kicked out of office for his support of this nonsense.
