President Obama has recently signed an executive order reversing the ban that prohibits funding to international family planning organizations that provide abortion-related services.
Obama released a statement that said:
We are reminded that this decision not only protects women’s health and reproductive freedom but stands for a broader principle: that government should not intrude on our most private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose. (source: ABC News)
How about the government not intrude on personal matters concerning its citizens’ hard-earned money!?!?! Even if Obama is committed to a woman’s right to choose, that should have NO IMPACT on utilizing taxpayer dollars. Nobody is entitled, or has the right, to anything that someone else provides.
If a woman or couple needs family planning services, they should seek it out from their own community. There should NOT be any federal funding for family planning groups, let alone those that operate and profit from the plight of less fortunate nations! Groups Businesses like Planned Parenthood bring in over $100 million in abortion revenue per year. Hardworking taxpayers fund Planned Parenthood with $335 million dollars per year (source: WSJ). To suggest that we should be providing federal funding for “family planning” to a business that is more than 20 times likely to provide an abortion to a pregnant woman than prenatal care (source) makes absolutely no sense.
I don’t care what side you are on with regard to abortion. Why are we funding businesses under the guise of “family planning services” when they clearly have a vested interest in doing the exact opposite and providing abortions and fattening their bottom line? Not to mention that Planned Parenthood operates under a nice surplus due to its abortion profit and does not need federal funding to stay afloat.
Now think about doing the exact same thing, but for other nations. Completely absurd.
This is not the role of government.
