State Governments Are Expanding Their Empires At Your Expense

peoples republic of new jersey

According to the New Jersey Business & Industry Association, from 2000 to 2007 NJ’s government added 54,800 jobs. To put that in proper perspective, that works out to 93% of all jobs created in New Jersey over those seven years.

New Jersey already has the worst taxes in the nation

Some numbers:

  • Estimated at 11.8% of income, New Jersey’s state/local tax burden percentage is the highest in the country, well above the national average of 9.7%. New Jersey taxpayers pay $6,610 per capita in state and local taxes.1
  • Among states levying corporate income taxes, New Jersey’s top tax rate ranks 7th highest nationally.1
  • New Jersey’s 2008 Business Tax Climate Ranks 49th in the nation.1
  • NJ has the highest property taxes in the country. Median real estate taxes paid: $5,772.2
  • sources: 1Tax Foundation, 2Retirement Living

The state government expands it’s size and scope at the expense of the taxpayer. More government jobs lead to additional ineffectiveness, bureaucracy, and both broad-based and nanny state based taxes. With people retiring earlier and living longer, the state increases its burden upon future generations.

With this absurd movement to build up the government at the expense of its citizens, NJ could be more aptly named the People’s Republic of New Jersey.
