The United Nations is one ineffective, audacious, and hypocritical organization.
Their tagline is “It’s your world”. Apparently they believe that it is more of Hamas’ world than Israel’s.
Referring to U.N. Secretary General Ban, one U.N. official said:
“He’s very keen to be out there calling for a ceasefire. Just stop the fighting, stop it now.” (source)
I didn’t know that the United Nations was supposed to be the world’s nanny. They act like a weak school Principal or parent that tells children they shouldn’t fight back when confronted and threatened by a bully.
Newsflash: peace is not the absence of conflict.
Well all knew that the ceasefire the U.N. arranged between Israel and Hezbollah in 06 was a temporary band-aid.
The U.N. is full of shit.
In Chapter 1, Article 2 of their Charter, the U.N. states:
6. The Organization shall ensure that states which are not Members of the United Nations act in accordance with these Principles so far as may be necessary for the maintenance of international peace and security.
When have they ever followed this point?
Hamas has fired thousands of rockets into Israel over the last year and they even have the obliteration of Israel in their charter. And the U.N. keeps quoting the civilian casualties in its efforts to broker another pointless ceasefire. But there is a HUGE difference in the way the casualties stack up on both sides:
- The bulk of civilian casualties on the Israeli side are a direct result of the initiated assault of Hamas’ rockets, which they shoot with complete disregard.
They utilize Katyusha Rockets, which are like the Diet-Coke versions of modern rockets. It’s like lighting a bottle rocket and throwing it. You don’t care where it lands, as long as it’s not on you or your friends. Knowing the way the U.N. operates, these terrorists can simply start an assault and wait for the U.N. and international pressures to make Israel back down. - The bulk of civilian casualties that occur outside of Israel are a direct result of Hamas, or other organizations like Hezbollah, hiding amongst the civilians. They know that civilian casualties look bad for Israel, so they use them as meat-shields. As cowardly as these groups are, they are certainly well aware of the political landscape and how to manipulate it in their favor.
So a message to the U.N. - you have repeatedly ignored Principle #6 (among others) in your own charter, to the detriment of your own members and that of otherwise peaceful people. Israel has every right to defend themselves and they have exercised restraint when asked bullied. Your nanny state leadership organization has also failed in response to numerous global conflicts, such as the genocide in Rwanda and Darfur. You seek to disarm peaceful nations which only enables the oppressors. Nor do you ever enforce your own resolutions. You are a joke.
The United States has no business being a member of the U.N., it only entangles us in an organization that affects our foreign policy negatively.
While we need not involve ourselves militarily in Israel’s conflict, it should be clear who we’re rooting for. And we should support the rights of otherwise peaceful nations to protect themselves. No organization, whether global or not, has the right to tell a nation when they can and can’t protect themselves.
